Garage Sale??

After all this remodeling going on here, we have been purging alot!!..our style has changed from somewhat country to more of a Pottery Barn style..so almost all of our decor needs to go...

I am needing to have a rather large Garage Sale, never having done one on my own before, does anyone have any tips?..do's or dont's???

Anyone want to join me?...a group effort would be fun!!

Put signs on the busy road with mroe signs pointing the turns so it's easy to find. Expect early birds (they're often pushy and try to bargain down your prices). Expect to do some bargaining, though, but on your terms. Having others in your neighborhood sell at the same time encourages people to stop instead of drive by. Guess who's having a garage sale soon??? ;)

Good tips & I agree, at least here, neighborhood sales draw hoards! The early birds will likely be flea marketers (you have flea markets out there, right?) so don't let them lowball you too soon (unless you just want the stuff taken off your hands.

And my advice: take time pricing in the days before, not morning of-price everything! Making it up on-the-spot is not a good thing and you can be caught off-guard by early birds!

And lastly, you will get some decent pocket change, but don't forget the tax benefits of donating... you'll likely make more money that way, so don't feel bad carting your non-sold items to the charity of choice (and for bigger items, many will come and get them if you schedule a pick-up). And you can help others who are less fortunate, too.

And I would LOVE to participate- but I don't think it would work out economically to get our stuff there :(
Love, b

Garage sales make me crazy. I'd find a way to advertise it in advance, maybe Craigslist. Something to really get the word and some details out there.

Sorry... no help here. I'm not a big fan of g.sales. I like going to them but hate having them. One piece of advice, though... don't put too much info on your signs. Write BIG and place arrows pointing the direction. Many people list all their stuff on the signs, but when you are driving by at 20+ MPH, you just care *where* it is, not necessarily every minute detail.
